Desktop SamplE processing

Our compact desktop sample processing package allows laboratory processing of field-collected samples. Sample run-time is less than one minute, the water reservoir requires less than five gallons, data are delivered immediately, and the entire package (except the imaging unit) fits within the reservoir for easy under-the-counter storage. Setup or breakdown time is less than ten minutes.

 Stream Sampling

The prototype stream sampling accessory provides a means to thoroughly sample stream benthic communities along a programmable track and with remote operation. The two-stage process first elutes large objects from the sample draw, then delivers effluent to the SAO Imager for classification and enumeration.

Vessel-based Sampling

The SAO Imager is essentially waterproof, enabling deployment on crewed or uncrewed surface vessels. This is an ideal arrangement for near-surface transect sampling, for example to map the fine-scale (sub-meter) distribution of zooplankton. The time stamp for each image is seconds-scale, allowing integration and mapping aligned with ancillary data such as temperature, salinity, and discontinuities.
