Hardware/Software Integration Solutions

OceanSpace offers two versions of our Small Aquatic Organism Imager. Both versions are flow-through systems providing independently adjustable LED lighting onto both the front and the back of the target, allowing the operator to customize lighting balance and thereby maximize definition of diagnostic features. The more economical grayscale unit incorporates a monochrome line-scan camera with 4k resolution. This unit is ideally suited for coastal and ocean applications where the primary target organisms are generally translucent (e.g., gelatinous zooplankton, crustaceans). An advantage of this unit is reduced data storage demand, allowing longer sampling events and quicker processing times. The color option also allows for grayscale imaging with its inherent advantages, but has the capability to reveal a suite of color features to enhance classification success. This 4k line-scan camera is particularly advantageous when dealing with colorful, opaque organisms such as stream insects and larval fish with diagnostic surface features, the tradeoff being much larger data files. OceanSpace has available, as an add-on option, our proprietary image analysis and classification software. This software provides the user with an easy and straightforward classification solution specifically designed for aquatic biological applications. As an alternative, the Gigabit Ethernet connection provides a means for clients to develop their own software for control of the camera and image acquisition.

The software development tool kit (SDK) is available from Teledyne Dalsa. https://www.teledynedalsa.com/en/products/imaging/vision-software/sapera-lt/).
